Ferhan Baras, a legendary player and former captain of the Fenerbahçe Men’s Basketball Team who wore the yellow-and-navy jersey from 1963 to 1978, has passed away, the club announced.
According to announcements shared by the club’s official basketball communication channels, Baras left an enduring legacy during his fifteen-season career in Istanbul. Throughout his tenure on the court, he helped guide Fenerbahçe to three Turkish Championships, three Istanbul Championships, and one Turkish Cup.
Fenerbahçe expressed profound grief over the loss in a public statement released via social media. “We have learned with great sadness of the passing of Ferhan Baras, one of our legendary players and captains who wore our jersey between 1963 and 1978 and won three Turkish Championships, three Istanbul Championships, and one Turkish Cup during this period,” the club stated. “We wish God’s mercy upon Ferhan Baras; and extend our condolences and patience to his family, loved ones, and the basketball community.”
Funeral arrangements for the former captain have been finalized. According to the club’s schedule, Baras’s funeral service will take place on Thursday, September 10, at Zincirlikuyu Mosque, where the midday (öğle) prayer will be performed. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Zincirlikuyu Cemetery.
In their final tribute, the club shared a direct farewell message: “We will not forget you, Ferhan Baras!”
