Competing for the Movistar Team, the 31-year-old climbed into the red leader’s jersey on the eighth stage following the crash and subsequent withdrawal of pre-race favorite Tadej Pogačar, ultimately holding the general classification lead all the way to the finish line.

Mas completed the three-week Spanish tour with a winning margin of 2 minutes and 15 seconds over Slovenia’s Primož Roglič, while Austria’s Felix Gall claimed third place, finishing 2 minutes and 44 seconds adrift.
The triumph marks Spain’s first victory in a Grand Tour since Alberto Contador won the Giro d’Italia in 2015. Over the course of his professional career, Mas endured multiple major crashes, technical difficulties on descents, and a venous thrombosis that required surgery, leading many observers to question whether he could still contend for a three-week title.

Sunday’s concluding 21st stage into Granada was won by Norway’s Tobias Johannessen. Racing for Uno-X, the 27-year-old secured his first career World Tour victory by outpacing a breakaway group of roughly ten riders to cross the finish line ahead of Alessandro Romele and Ramses Debruyne. General classification times were officially frozen with 10 kilometers remaining on the stage after riders expressed safety concerns regarding the technical final circuit.

The final classification podiums highlighted dominant team performances and breakout rides across the three-week calendar. Visma-Lease a Bike set a team record with seven stage victories across the span of the race.

The third stage of the race was canceled entirely due to severe hail storms.
