Dallas Goedert Injury and Timeline
The Philadelphia Eagles are facing a multi-week absence for one of their top offensive weapons after tight end Dallas Goedert sprained his MCL during a 24-20 victory against the Tennessee Titans on September 20, 2026. Goedert sustained the knee injury early in the second quarter while blocking at the line of scrimmage on a run play, when a diving Titans defender accidentally cut him low. He played just 19 snaps, caught one pass for 4 yards, and did not return for the second half.
Additional testing on Monday confirmed the severity of the knee issue. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported that the 31-year-old tight end is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks. The setback comes just after Goedert opened the 2026 campaign with a strong performance in Week 1, hauling in four catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns against the Washington Commanders. Last season, Goedert appeared in 15 games and recorded 60 receptions, 591 receiving yards, and 11 touchdowns.
Zach Ertz Reunion and Tight End Depth
With Goedert sidelined alongside a thin depth chart, the Eagles are reuniting with veteran tight end Zach Ertz by signing him to the practice squad. Ertz, 35, spent the first eight-plus seasons of his career in Philadelphia after being selected in the second round of the 2013 draft. He is expected to be elevated from the practice squad to the active roster for the team’s Week 3 matchup against the Chicago Bears.
The Eagles’ tight end room faced mounting injuries even before Goedert went down in Tennessee. Rookie Eli Stowers and veteran Grant Calcaterra are both currently on injured reserve, leaving Johnny Mundt and E.J. Jenkins as the remaining tight ends on the active roster for the second half of Sunday’s game. Philadelphia also recently added Josiah Deguara to the practice squad.

We’re a little banged up there, as you guys know, but I like the pieces that we have there, and we’ll see where we are with Dallas. A return to Philadelphia puts Ertz within striking distance of a major franchise milestone. During his initial eight-plus seasons with the Eagles from 2013 to 2021, Ertz earned three Pro Bowl nods and caught the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl LII against the New England Patriots.
Across his tenure in Philadelphia, Ertz recorded 579 receptions. He sits just 11 receptions away from breaking Hall of Famer Harold Carmichael’s all-time franchise record. After leaving Philadelphia via a midseason trade to the Arizona Cardinals in 2021, Ertz played for Arizona through 2023 and spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons with the Washington Commanders, where he caught 50 passes for 504 yards and four touchdowns across 13 games last year.
