Beerschot sits atop the Challenger Pro League table with 15 points after six matchweeks, but manager Mo Messoudi has pointed to clear tactical flaws and structural adjustments needed for his squad.
Tactical Adjustments and Away Performance Concerns
While Beerschot’s home performances have drawn praise for their conviction, the team’s road matches have presented distinct hurdles. Speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws, Messoudi highlighted a tendency toward excessive caution during away fixtures, pointing directly to the match against Dender as an example of overly conservative play.

“We put too little risk in our game and shifted responsibility in possession,” Messoudi said. A similar dip in intensity occurred during the fixture against Hasselt, where a strong opening period gave way to a 30-minute slump that forced the coaching staff to intervene during the half-time interval. To maintain their grip on the league summit, the manager wants his squad to eliminate these passive phases.
Jelle Vossen Injury and Recovery Timeline
Beerschot faces a significant personnel challenge following an injury to veteran forward Jelle Vossen. The experienced striker sustained a micro-tear in his Achilles tendon, sidelining him for several months. However, Messoudi indicated that the outcome could have been far worse if the damage had been more severe.
“With a complete tear, it would have been over,” Messoudi noted. The medical staff hopes Vossen can avoid surgery and complete his rehabilitation in time to rejoin the first-team group by December or January. “His role is not played out yet,” the manager added, underscoring the striker’s value in a squad built to contend for promotion.
Focus Shifts to Croky Cup Clash Against Crossing Schaerbeek
Before league action resumes, Beerschot turns its attention to the sixth round of the Croky Cup, where they travel to face Crossing Schaerbeek on Sunday. Messoudi warned against underestimating the Brussels-based side, noting that lower-division opponents frequently raise their level for cup fixtures.

“That team will be very motivated, they will bend over backwards,” Messoudi said. Having reviewed video footage of their opponents, the coaching staff is weighing squad rotation, with potential changes anticipated across the lineup, including the possibility of a shift in goal. “The goalkeeper? That is possible,” Messoudi stated, emphasizing that the primary objective is simply advancing to the next round.
