Real Sporting de Gijón is closing in on the signing of forward Antonio Casas from Venezia, with paperwork finalized and submitted to the Italian club, according to regional reporting and sports daily Marca. The transaction is structured as a loan with an option to purchase at the end of the season, pending final administrative sign-off from Venezia.
Overcoming Financial Hurdles Through a Loan Structure
The deal required delicate financial balancing to clear salary cap constraints. Casas carries a high salary from his time with the Italian club, where he holds a contract running through June 30, 2028. To bridge the gap, Venezia—which is managing an overloaded attacking roster following its promotion to Serie A—agreed to cover a portion of the player’s wages for the current campaign, as detailed by Marca.
Sporting’s sports management group reached a consensus on the forward after tracking him as an early target to bolster the attacking line. Negotiations initially cooled due to financial distance between the clubs, but revived as all parties sought a viable framework. Casas has agreed to terms with the Asturian club and is prepared to travel to Gijón as soon as the final signatures are recorded.
From La Rambla to Serie A Promotion
Born in the Córdoba town of La Rambla, Casas built his professional reputation primarily during a four-year stint with Córdoba, where he scored 51 goals across 150 appearances. He gave the jump to professional football in the 2024–25 season with Córdoba, with whom he had achieved promotion to Segunda some months earlier. Nicknamed “El Torpedo,” the striker opted against renewing his contract at El Arcángel, drawing interest from abroad before choosing Venezia.

During his time in Italy, Casas made 26 appearances in Serie B, netting three goals and contributing one assist as Venezia earned promotion to the Italian top flight last May. However, with the club preparing for Serie A with a heavily populated attacking corps, Casas was left off the matchday squad for Saturday’s opening-round Coppa Italia fixture against Modena, clearing the path for his departure.
What Comes Next for Sporting and Casas
With documentation exchanged between Gijón and Italy, both clubs are reviewing final contractual details. Casas awaits official clearance to travel to Asturias, where he is set to put pen to paper on a temporary agreement that includes a purchase option stretching his potential stay at El Molinón through 2030, according to Marca.

Once finalized, Casas will immediately integrate into training under Nicolás Larcamón. Sporting returns to competitive action shortly, and the club aims to have its new forward available for selection as soon as registration formalities conclude.
