Football star Lionel Messi has donated €80,000 to aid the recovery of Spain’s Sierra Oeste region following a devastating wildfire that scorched nearly 30,000 hectares.
Madrid regional president Isabel Díaz Ayuso announced the contribution on Tuesday via official social media channels. The funds are earmarked directly for restoration efforts in the mountainous territory located just west of the Spanish capital, where flames impacted an estimated 27,000 hectares within the regional jurisdiction alone.

“I want to thank him and tell him that the people of Madrid look forward to welcoming him soon to give him the applause he deserves,” Díaz Ayuso wrote in a public message expressing gratitude for the forward’s gesture.
The destructive summer blazes swept through 17 distinct municipalities across the Sierra Oeste. They wreaked havoc on local ecosystems, agricultural exploitations, rural housing, and vital infrastructure, according to regional government figures.
The extensive damage targeted dense forest reserves as well as critical local farming operations that sustain rural families in the area.
Comprehensive Regional Recovery Framework
Following the disaster, the regional administration established a comprehensive recovery framework. It assists displaced residents, commercial enterprises, and independent contractors.
