José Mourinho has returned to the center of a football controversy with the release of a new Netflix documentary premiering this week, which examines his first managerial tenure at Real Madrid and focuses directly on his tense relationship with then-club captain Iker Casillas.
According to reports from La Opinión A Coruña, the Portuguese coach uses the production to detail his early impressions of the Santiago Bernabéu dressing room, describing a culture of player privilege that he immediately sought to challenge upon arriving at the club in 2010.

Mourinho recalled that three initial interactions with Casillas signaled a deeper issue regarding discipline and expectations within the squad. According to the reporting, the goalkeeper first approached the manager to request additional vacation time for players representing the Spain national team. In a second conversation, Casillas asked the technical staff to push training sessions back by an hour due to traffic conditions in Madrid. Finally, the captain requested that the team skip staying at a designated hotel prior to matches, proposing instead that players meet directly at the stadium.
“In a short time I realized that they were spoiled,” Mourinho states in the documentary, summarizing the philosophy that guided his overhaul of a star-studded squad where he believed his mandate was to establish authority rather than merely coach tactics.
