The Washington Commanders hosted the Miami Dolphins for a joint training camp practice in Ashburn, Va. on Wednesday, marking the first time the Dolphins worked against another team since their 2025 season finale, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel. Quarterback Jayden Daniels displayed sharp execution and touch, leading the Commanders’ offense through strong periods while the defense kept Miami under constant pressure.
Jayden Daniels and Commanders Defense Shine in Physical Joint Practice
Daniels showed a total command of first-year coordinator David Blough’s system, displaying improved touch and precision, according to The New York Times. During an 11-on-11 period, Daniels connected with rookie Antonio Williams in the right corner of the end zone and later lobbed a touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs in the opposite corner. Daniels also recorded completions to Treylon Burks, Van Jefferson, Terry McLaurin, and tight end Chig Okonkwo.
The workout concluded with a two-minute drill where Daniels was efficient, completing passes to Diggs, Okonkwo, and Burks, according to the Washington Commanders.
Washington Defense and Standout Defensive Plays
The Commanders’ defense kept the Dolphins stymied during team drills and the late-game two-minute scenario. Defensive back Mike Sainristil recorded the defensive play of the day by intercepting a pass and returning it for a touchdown, celebrating by punting the ball into the air. During the two-minute drill, edge rusher Kellee Chaisson would have recorded a sack on the first play, and Odafe Oweh added a pressure to force an incompletion on the next snap.
Reflecting on the defensive mindset, cornerback Amik Robertson said, I told the guys, ‘Everything we did out there, we knew we were going to do. That’s just gotta be the mindset. Anybody that steps to this side, they don’t belong on the field with us.
Dolphins Battle Through Struggles and Physicality
For Miami, operating under first-year coach Jeff Hafley, the joint practice exposed a young and thin roster that struggled with execution. Some things we definitely got to clean up, but that’s what we expect Day 1 of joint practice,
linebacker Jordyn Brooks said. Despite offensive inconsistencies, Dolphins players emphasized their physical approach, with teams thudding against the run rather than tackling to the ground. Definitely physical. I don’t think that aspect was lacking,
right tackle Austin Jackson said.

Among Miami’s individual performances, rookie wide receiver Caleb Douglas produced several explosive plays across 1-on-1, 7-on-7, and team periods, including a contested catch during a late-game drive that was ultimately halted by a penalty. Edge defender Chop Robinson also logged wins and generated pressure off the edge against Washington’s offensive front.
Preseason Opener Context
The joint practice served as a final tune-up before the two teams meet at Northwest Stadium for their preseason opener on Friday, according to Yahoo Sports. Commanders head coach Dan Quinn did not state whether starters would play in the upcoming game.
