Anderlecht Loses Out on Top Winger Target
RSC Anderlecht has missed out on target winger Nathan Ngoumou. OGC Nice reached a full agreement with Borussia Mönchengladbach to secure the French attacker, according to reports from French and Belgian outlets.
The 26-year-old forward was high on the wish list of sporting director Antoine Sibierski as a potential reinforcement for the Belgian side. The deal redirects the former Toulouse player back to Ligue 1 instead of the Jupiler Pro League.
Terms of the Ligue 1 Switch
According to reports covered by L’Équipe and detailed via VoetbalFocus, OGC Nice and Borussia Mönchengladbach finalized an agreement on a Friday regarding the transfer of Nathan Ngoumou.
Although the winger still had one year remaining on his contract with the Bundesliga club, the deal allows him a free move to the southern French club. Borussia Mönchengladbach will receive potential bonuses running up to half a million euros alongside a ten percent sell-on percentage. The German side also clears a full year of Ngoumou’s wages from their financial books.
Assessing the Achilles Injury Layoff
The move marks a return to France for Ngoumou, who previously featured for Toulouse before his jump to the German top flight.
His career trajectory in Mönchengladbach suffered a major setback in April 2025 when he tore his achilles tendon. Since sustaining that severe injury, Ngoumou has not made a single competitive appearance. Despite the long layoff, OGC Nice officials are banking on the attacker regaining his previous competitive form once the final administrative paperwork is cleared.
Flank Reinforcement Urgency in Brussels
For RSC Anderlecht, the breakdown of the pursuit means sporting leadership must pivot quickly to alternative wing options.
Antoine Sibierski and the club’s technical staff viewed Ngoumou as a primary profile to bolster their flanks with proven experience. While Anderlecht previously brought in Oliver Antman, and continues to monitor the development of young academy prospects like Joshua Nga Kana and Jayden Onia Seke, the squad still lacks a seasoned veteran wide player. With Ngoumou officially bound for the French Riviera, Sibierski faces renewed pressure on the transfer market to secure a flank reinforcement before the window closes.
