In a rare and memorable temporary assignment, the former Dutch international midfielder recently took charge of PSV Eindhoven for their final pre-season friendly. Head coach Peter Bosz simply told him, “You do it,” sending his assistant into the technical area to manage the side.

The unique coaching arrangement took place just ahead of the traditional curtain-raiser for the Dutch football season, the Johan Cruijff Schaal. With PSV scheduling their final test of the summer in a local fixture known as the Lichtstadderby against FC Eindhoven, Bosz opted to hand the managerial reins temporarily to his assistant.
“That you can sit in the chair of the person ultimately responsible is a lot of fun,” Schaars remarked in press conference comments reported by PSV’s club media.
Youth Talent Shines Under Temporary Guidance
They used the warm-up match to showcase their development under the watchful eyes of both Bosz and Schaars.
The comfortable result served as an ideal tune-up for the squad before shifting full focus back to official competitive fixtures.
