The influence of Real Madrid extends far beyond the manicured grass of the Santiago Bernabéu. In a concerted effort to scale its social impact, the Real Madrid Foundation recently conducted a specialized training program for coaches in São Paulo, Brazil, focusing on the intersection of athletic development and social welfare.

The initiative, hosted at the Santa Luzia Social Center, was designed to refine the methodologies used across the foundation’s social sports schools in the region. By blending soccer and basketball training, the program aimed to equip local instructors with the tools necessary to leverage sports as a primary vehicle for education and social integration.

The demographic makeup of the group—consisting of 12 men and 7 women—reflected a commitment to professional diversity and a broad range of experience in youth mentorship.

Scaling Social Impact through Strategic Partnerships

The Real Madrid Foundation does not operate in a vacuum. Its Brazilian schools are deployed in coordination with Misiones Salesianas and receive critical support from Abbott and Fundación Mapfre. Together, these partnerships currently provide essential sports and educational resources to more than 900 children.

The foundation’s philosophy centers on using the inherent values of sport to foster personal growth and provide a lifeline for children in underserved environments. By focusing on “social sports,” the organization seeks to create a sense of belonging and community for youth who might otherwise lack access to structured athletic and educational programs.

Expansion into Atibaia

While the training focused on existing schools, it likewise served as a launchpad for future growth. Technical staff and project leaders for a fresh initiative in Atibaia participated in the sessions. This upcoming project is being developed in cooperation with Instituto Muda Brasil and involves the direct participation of Atibaia city officials, signaling a deepening integration with local government to ensure the project’s sustainability.

This expansion highlights the foundation’s strategy of adapting its global methods to the specific educational, social, and sporting contexts of Brazil. Rather than applying a rigid template, the training encouraged an exchange of experiences between teams to ensure the approach resonates with the local community.
