Rome has solidified its position as a premier destination for global archery in 2026, beginning with the successful execution of the 53rd Campionato Italiano di tiro con l’Arco INDOOR. Hosted at the sprawling Fiera Roma, the event brought together the elite of Italian archery for a high-stakes competition that served as a cornerstone of the national season.

The championship saw more than 1,300 archers converge on the capital, representing a vast cross-section of the sport. Competitors faced off across the recurve, compound, and barebow divisions, with categories spanning youth, senior, and master levels. Adding a layer of prestige to the event, members of the Italian national team participated, arriving fresh from their campaigns at the Indoor European Championships in Bulgaria.

A Venue Designed for Precision

The scale of the event required a massive logistical footprint, with organizers dedicating two entire halls at Fiera Roma to the “Tricolori Indoor” festivities. The layout was strategically split to separate the grueling qualification phases from the high-pressure finals.

Padiglione 8 served as the engine room of the tournament. This hall hosted the 60-arrow qualification round, the critical phase that determined the head-to-head elimination brackets and subsequent knockout stages. Beyond the shooting lines, this area functioned as a commercial hub, featuring trade stands and exhibitors that kept athletes and fans engaged between ends.

In contrast, Padiglione 7 was the “beating heart” of the competition. This hall was reserved for the finals field of play, where the Italian titles were ultimately decided. To support the athletes, this area also housed the training zones and the primary refreshment area, ensuring competitors could maintain focus and physical readiness.

Organizational Pedigree and Community Support

The event was held under the patronage of Roma Capitale and organized by RECAP. The organization brought significant experience to the table, having previously managed high-profile international fixtures including the Roma Archery Trophy in 2018 and 2019, as well as multiple editions of the Para-Archery Cup and the European Para-Archery Championships.

RECAP’s approach extended beyond the professional leaderboard. The event integrated several community-focused initiatives designed to grow the sport and support participating families. A “Strive Archery” corner allowed newcomers to pick up a bow and experience the sport firsthand, while a series of training courses were provided for clubs and industry professionals.

Recognizing the challenges of traveling with families, the organizers implemented a baby parking service—available by reservation during qualification rounds on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday—allowing parents to compete or spectate with greater peace of mind.

Logistics and Athlete Experience

For the 1,300+ participants, the experience began on Wednesday with accreditation opening from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The event’s operational flow was centered around the North Entrance at Via Portuense 1645-1647, with paid parking available for 5 euros per day and free shuttle services running from the north parking lot to the pavilions starting Thursday.

To further support the athletes, RECAP offered a paid bow storage service at 2 euros per bag. In a move to incentivize the use of official facilities, a promotion was offered where those who presented their paid parking ticket at accreditation received a free training session pass and complimentary bow storage.

The 2026 Roman Archery Calendar

The success of the Italian Indoor Championships is just the beginning of a heavy international schedule for the city. Rome is currently acting as a central hub for the sport, with two more major championships slated for the remainder of the year.

The city will next host the Europei Paralimpici (European Para Championships) from April 28 to May 3. Following that, the focus will shift to the next generation of talent as Rome welcomes the Campionati Europei Giovanili (European Youth Championships) from July 20 to 26.
