BAYAGUANA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – The Fundación Leidi Germán recently concluded its “Sembrando Futuro Bayaguana 2026” sports camp, a four-day event held from March 28th to 31st at the Complejo Deportivo in Bayaguana. The camp drew over 350 young athletes, providing a comprehensive training experience across a diverse range of sports and emphasizing holistic youth development.
The initiative, backed by municipal and provincial authorities in Monte Plata, wasn’t simply about athletic instruction. Organizers aimed to create a space where young people could grow through sport and education, fostering values like discipline, respect, teamwork, and commitment. This year’s camp built on the foundation’s previous work, including a martial arts and self-defense camp in 2025 that served over 125 children, demonstrating a sustained commitment to youth sports in the Dominican Republic.
A Broad Spectrum of Athletic Disciplines
The “Sembrando Futuro Bayaguana 2026” camp offered instruction in a remarkable ten different sports, making it accessible to a wide range of interests and skill levels. Participants had the opportunity to endeavor their hand at athletics, badminton, handball, judo, karate, football (soccer), tennis, weightlifting, taekwondo, volleyball, and softball. The inclusive nature of the camp, offered free of charge, ensured that financial constraints wouldn’t prevent any interested child from participating.
Leading the instruction were 40 specialized coaches and technical staff, providing individualized guidance and ensuring a high quality of training. Beyond the physical training, the camp incorporated educational sessions focused on nutrition, sportsmanship, and ethical conduct – lessons intended to benefit the young athletes both on and off the field.
Leidi Germán: A Champion’s Vision for Youth Development
The camp is spearheaded by Leidi Germán, a former high-performance judo athlete and the president of the Fundación Leidi Germán. Germán emphasized the foundation’s core mission: “Our main purpose is to promote the integral formation of young people, promoting values such as discipline, respect, teamwork and commitment through sports practice, and education.” Her personal experience as an athlete clearly informs the program’s focus on character building alongside athletic skill development.
Community Support Fuels Success
The success of the camp wasn’t solely due to the foundation’s efforts. A wide array of local organizations and institutions provided crucial support, including the Unión Deportiva de Bayaguana, Comedores Económicos, Seaboard Energía Limpia, Vita Salud, the Sistema Nacional de Atención a Emergencias y Seguridad 911, the Ministerio de la Presidencia, the Federación Dominicana de Medicina Deportiva, and the Federación Dominicana de Judo (Fedojudo). This broad base of support underscores the community’s investment in the future of its young athletes.
The camp ran daily from 8:00 a.m. To 4:00 p.m., providing a structured environment for learning, recreation, and positive social interaction. The organizers prioritized safety and organization, creating a positive experience for all participants.
This event highlights a growing trend in the Dominican Republic – a focus on leveraging sports as a tool for social and personal development. The Fundación Leidi Germán’s commitment to providing accessible, high-quality sports programming is a significant contribution to this effort. The camp’s success demonstrates the power of collaboration between local organizations, government entities, and dedicated individuals like Leidi Germán to create opportunities for young people.
Looking ahead, the Fundación Leidi Germán is expected to continue its work in Bayaguana and potentially expand its programs to other communities in the Dominican Republic. The foundation’s ongoing commitment to youth sports promises a brighter future for aspiring athletes across the nation.
