Lima, Peru – The Polideportivo I of the Videna complex in Lima, Peru, officially opened its doors on Thursday to the inaugural Campeonato Nacional de Vóley Masculino Sub-15 (National Men’s Under-15 Volleyball Championship). The tournament, running through Sunday, March 15th, aims to cultivate young talent and broaden the reach of volleyball throughout the country.
More than 80 young athletes representing seven teams from across Peru are competing in the four-day event. The participating regions include Lima, Cusco, Callao, and Arequipa, signaling a nationwide effort to develop the sport at the grassroots level.
The opening ceremony featured a parade of teams, beginning with San Isidro, followed by Miraflores, San Sebastián de Cusco, Cajamarca, Ventanilla del Callao, Huancayo, and finally, Paucarpata of Arequipa. Each team proudly displayed a symbol representing their region as they were applauded by the attending audience.
Key figures from the Peruvian sporting community were present at the inauguration, including Gino Vegas, President of the Federación Peruana de Vóley (FPV); Leyla Chihuán, representative of the Liga Distrital de Voleibol de San Isidro; Cinthia Ramírez, head of the Instituto Nacional de Radio y Televisión del Perú (IRTP); José Luis Casas, Director of Recreation for the IPD; and Nancy Vizurraga, the Mayor of San Isidro.
Both Ramírez and Vizurraga addressed the crowd, emphasizing the importance of sports in youth development. Mayor Vizurraga highlighted the power of sport to build character, unite communities, and create opportunities for young people. Ramírez, meanwhile, expressed the IRTP’s commitment to promoting youth sports through live coverage of the championship on TVPerú and Radio Nacional.

This championship marks a significant step in the development of men’s volleyball in Peru, a nation traditionally celebrated for its success in women’s volleyball.
