Amsterdam, Netherlands – Mika Godts is enjoying a breakout season with Ajax, and the recognition is continuing to roll in. The 20-year-old Belgian winger has been named the Johan Cruijff Talent of the Month for February in the Eredivisie, marking the second time this season he’s received the honor. However, Godts admitted he has his sights set on an even bigger prize: being named Eredivisie Player of the Month.
Godts’ stellar February included three goals and one assist for Ajax, solidifying his position as a key player for the Amsterdam club. He scored twice against Fortuna Sittard and once against N.E.C. Nijmegen, and also provided an assist in the 4-1 victory over Fortuna. He was directly involved in four goals during the month, more than any other player in the league. He also led the Eredivisie in dribbles with 29 completed take-ons, nine of which were successful.
“No Player of the Month? Too subpar,” Godts said, according to reports. “I would have preferred to be Player of the Month, but Talent of the Month is also decent. If the match against Excelsior had been included, I would have had five goals in five matches. Then I would definitely have been first. Where did I miss out? I believe it was that phase with Wout Weghorst.”
The comment refers to a missed opportunity during a recent 1-1 draw against N.E.C. Nijmegen. Godts found himself in a promising position but failed to spot the advancing Weghorst, potentially costing Ajax a crucial goal. “I re-watched the phase with him and could have given the ball at one point. But I went for my own success for a moment, unfortunately,” he explained.
This season, Godts has become a vital component of Ajax’s attack, contributing 13 goals and eight assists in Eredivisie play. His performances have also significantly increased his market value, which is now estimated at €15 million. He is currently tied with Joey Veerman as the player most involved in goals this season, with a total of 21 goal contributions.
The Johan Cruijff Talent of the Month award comes with a €2,500 cheque for the Ajax Foundation, courtesy of the VriendenLoterij (Friends Lottery). A €5,000 contribution is made to the Johan Cruyff Foundation to support social impact projects. The award was presented to Godts by ESPN reporter Hans Kraay Jr.
Godts first received the Johan Cruijff Talent of the Month award in November 2025, after scoring against sc Heerenveen, FC Utrecht, and FC Groningen, and assisting on a goal versus Excelsior Rotterdam. In November, he created ten chances from open play, the fourth-highest tally in the league, and completed 13 successful take-ons, the most in the Eredivisie.
The Eredivisie Talent of the Month award is based on Opta statistics, utilizing over sixty different metrics to evaluate player performance. The award recognizes young players who are making a significant impact in the Dutch top flight.
Ajax currently finds themselves in a period of transition, and Godts’ emergence as a consistent performer is a bright spot for the club. His ability to create chances, score goals, and beat defenders has made him a fan favorite and a key player in the team’s attack.
