Jakarta – A return to the South Korean V-League for Indonesian volleyball star Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi is on hold, as a lingering knee injury will prevent her from competing in the 2026/2027 season. The news comes after a period of speculation regarding the possibility of “Megatron,” as she’s known, rejoining the league following her time with Red Sparks.
Megawati concluded her two seasons in the Korean V-League in 2024/2025 before returning to Indonesia. She briefly signed with Turkish club Manisa BBSK, but that contract was terminated before she could capture to the court.
Currently competing with Jakarta Pertamina Enduro in the Proliga 2026, which concludes in April, Megawati had been linked with several Korean clubs, including a team based in Seoul. Reports in December 2025 indicated her strong desire to return to Korea, even stating she had begun studying the language.
“I want to return to Korea again. I have been learning Korean through books for the past two months,” Megawati said through her agent, according to Yonhap News. However, a subsequent report from SBS News revealed the reason for the potential delay.
Her agent explained that Megawati is still recovering from a knee injury sustained during her time with Red Sparks. “As the Korean regular season comes to an end, we want to disclose our position so as not to disadvantage clubs that are curious about Mega’s future,” the agent stated. “Mega remains determined to challenge the Korean stage with a healthy body after completing her knee treatment.”
The knee injury has been a persistent issue for Megawati, visibly impacting her performance in recent matches with Jakarta Pertamina Enduro, where she managed only 4 points in their last game before a break in competition. This injury is now the primary obstacle preventing her immediate return to the V-League.
While a return to the V-League is not possible for the 2026/2027 season, Megawati remains focused on her recovery and a future opportunity to compete in Korea. The timeline for her full recovery and potential return remains uncertain, but her determination to play at the highest level is clear.
Fans will be watching closely for updates on Megawati’s rehabilitation and any future announcements regarding her volleyball career. Her talent and dedication have made her a beloved figure in both Indonesia and South Korea, and her return to the court will undoubtedly be welcomed by fans worldwide.
The next confirmed checkpoint for Megawati will be her continued participation in the Proliga 2026 following the break, with updates on her recovery expected to be released by her team and agent as they become available.
