Osaro Rich Signs Extension with Veolia Towers Hamburg Through 2028
Hamburg, Germany – Osaro Rich, a homegrown talent for the Veolia Towers Hamburg, has committed his future to the club, signing a contract extension through the summer of 2028. The 27-year-aged defensive specialist’s early extension underscores his importance to the team and his deep connection to the city of Hamburg.
The announcement came during a record-breaking atmosphere at the Barclays Arena, with 12,570 fans in attendance for a top matchup against FC Bayern München. It was a fitting stage to confirm the continued partnership between the Towers and one of their most beloved players. Rich currently ranks third in games played for the Hamburg franchise, with 135 appearances to his name.
A Hamburg Native Stays Home
“The Towers are more than just a club to me – this is where I feel at home,” Rich said, according to a team statement. “To live in what is, in my opinion, the most elegant city in Germany, to be able to pursue my passion as a profession, and to have my family and friends in the stands at every home game is simply invaluable. I’m really looking forward to the next two seasons with the TowersFamily.”
Rich’s journey with the Veolia Towers began in 2014 when he joined the club’s youth program, progressing through the JBBL and NBBL levels. From 2016, he also gained valuable experience with SC Rist Wedel under a dual license agreement. He spent five seasons with the partner club, including two years under the guidance of Benka Barloschky, who served as head coach in Wedel from 2019 to 2021.

A Coach’s Perspective
Head Coach Benka Barloschky highlighted the special connection he has with Rich, stating, “It’s no secret that Osaro is a special player for me. Since our time together at SC Rist, I’ve been able to watch him steadily develop. He’s taken an incredibly difficult path, progressing alongside Justus, yet always in his shadow. He never stopped believing in himself and forged his own path. I have the greatest respect for that. I’m proud to be able to coach him again and continue to do so.”
Rich turned professional in 2021, logging 40 appearances for the Hamburg team in the 2. Basketball Bundesliga ProA and the easyCredit BBL over three seasons. This experience prepared him for a full-time role with the Veolia Towers. Yet, seeking a breakthrough, he moved to Bayreuth for one year and then to Göttingen. He returned to his hometown in 2024.
Loyalty and Leadership
“Osaro embodies the development of our club like no other player,” said Marvin Willoughby, the Veolia Towers’ sporting director. “I’ve been in the arena with him since Hamburg was far from being a basketball hub. He’s been with us every step of the way and worked hard for everything he’s achieved.” Willoughby added, “For me, his loyalty is particularly special. I see it as a huge sign of appreciation that he chose to continue building something sustainable here despite many other offers. He’s grown from a youth player into a key performer, a figurehead, and a role model for the many children in our club. That makes him the face of our club for me.”
To date, Osaro Rich has played 135 games for the Towers, scoring a total of 545 points. He ranks third in total appearances for the Veolia Towers, behind Lukas Meisner (155) and Seth Hinrichs (153).
