Indian Wells, California – Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos are aiming to erase a past disappointment at the BNP Paribas Open as they advance to the semifinals of the 2026 tournament. The top seeds are seeking a return to the final, where they fell short two years ago.
On Thursday, the veteran pairing secured their spot in the semifinals with a convincing 6-4, 6-2 victory over Constantin Frantzen of Germany and Robin Haase of the Netherlands in 64 minutes. This continues a strong start to the 2026 season for the duo.
Granollers and Zeballos have established a formidable record in ATP Masters 1000 events since joining forces in 2019, capturing eight titles from nine final appearances. Their only loss in a Masters 1000 final came at Indian Wells in 2024, where they were defeated by Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic.
Now ranked No. 3 in the PIF ATP Doubles Team Rankings, Granollers and Zeballos will face Guido Andreozzi and Manuel Guinard in the semifinals. The Argentine-French team advanced after a hard-fought 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 win over the No. 4 seeds and reigning Australian Open champions, Christian Harrison and Neal Skupski.
The top-seeded duo’s path to the semifinals hasn’t been without its challenges. In the first round, they faced a unique challenge in the form of singles specialists Reilly Opelka and Jannik Sinner, ultimately prevailing 6-4, 6-4. This demonstrated their ability to adapt and overcome opponents with different strengths.
Their second-round match against Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul proved to be a tougher test. After dropping the first set 2-6, Granollers and Zeballos rallied to win 6-3, 10-5, showcasing their resilience and fighting spirit. In the quarterfinal against Frantzen and Haase, they were dominant on serve, winning 82% of their first serve points (36/44) according to Infosys ATP statistics.
Granollers and Zeballos have reached at least the semifinal stage in all three tournaments they’ve entered in 2026, boasting a 10-2 win-loss record for the year. They began the season with a semifinal appearance at the Australian Open (falling to Harrison and Skupski), followed by a runner-up finish in Dallas (losing to Arribage and Olivetti). Their strong performance in Indian Wells further solidifies their position as one of the top doubles teams in the world.
In the bottom half of the draw, Andre Goransson of Sweden and Yuki Bhambri of India will compete against Arthur Rinderknech of France and Valentin Vacherot of Monaco. This match promises to be another exciting contest as both teams look to advance to the final.
