Edouard Arvisais: Local Badminton Player Competes at Canadian University Championships 2026

LONGUEUIL, Quebec – Edouard Arvisais of La Tuque, Quebec, is currently competing at the 2026 YONEX Canadian University/College Championships in badminton, hosted at Cégep Édouard-Montpetit in Longueuil, Quebec. The tournament, which began on March 19th and runs through March 21st for team events and March 22nd for individual events, brings together collegiate and university players from across Canada.

Arvisais, an 18-year-ancient athlete representing the Électriks du Cégep de Shawinigan, is participating in both the individual and team events alongside teammate Jean-Nicolas Normandin, also of the Électriks. The pair are also competing alongside athletes from the Patriotes de l’UQTR.

This marks Arvisais’s first season on the collegiate circuit, and he views the championships as a valuable learning opportunity. “It’s a big tournament. There will be university players as well, so the level will be exceptionally high. For me, it’s mainly a learning tournament to witness where I stand and improve for the future,” Arvisais explained, according to reporting from LechodelaTuque.com.

Approximately 150 players are expected to participate in the championships, creating a highly competitive environment. The unique format of the event, combining both collegiate and university teams, promises challenging matchups for all competitors. The University of Toronto Varsity Blues recently previewed the championships, noting the importance of the team event and the high level of competition expected.

Arvisais balances his athletic commitments with his studies as a student in the humanities, psychosocial profile program at Cégep de Shawinigan. He maintains a rigorous training schedule, practicing six days a week and often competing on weekends. Despite the demands on his time, he’s successfully integrating his academic pursuits with his badminton career.

The Électriks team faced some early-season challenges due to temporary unavailability of their gymnasium, forcing them to primarily train with student partners. However, Arvisais quickly adapted to the collegiate level, expressing some surprise at the competition. “I thought it was going to be much stronger than that. I was surprised,” he said.

Beyond his current competitive endeavors, Arvisais is also a founding member of the Méchants moineaux badminton tournament, demonstrating his long-standing commitment to the sport. His involvement highlights his dedication to growing badminton within his community.

Registration for the 2026 YONEX Canadian University/College Championships opened on February 26th, 2026, with a maximum of eight teams accepted for the team event. The championships are being held at Cégep Édouard-Montpetit, a well-known institution for collegiate sports in Quebec.

The Canadian University/College Championships represent a significant step in Arvisais’s badminton journey. As he continues to develop and gain experience, he’s poised to develop into a prominent figure in Canadian collegiate badminton. Fans can follow updates on the tournament’s progress through Badminton Canada’s official channels and the Cégep Édouard-Montpetit website.

Next up for Arvisais and his teammates is continued competition at the championships through March 22nd. Archysport will continue to monitor the results and provide updates as they become available.
