Derek Willis: Paris Basketball Adaptation, Season Goals & Message to Fans | EuroLeague & French Playoffs Focus

PARIS – Derek Willis, the American power forward who joined Paris Basketball this past summer from Anadolu Efes, has spoken about his adaptation to the team and outlined his ambitions for the remainder of the season. The 6-foot-9 forward is quickly becoming a key component for the French club as they push for success on multiple fronts.

Willis, known for his shooting and rebounding prowess, has found a comfortable role within Paris Basketball’s system. “I feel excellent. I love the city, I love the team, all my teammates and the technical staff. I’m really happy and grateful to be here,” Willis said, reflecting on his initial impressions. “We’ve had our ups and downs, but overall I feel it’s been a satisfying season.”

As Paris Basketball navigates the final stretch of the EuroLeague season, Willis emphasized the importance of finishing strong. “I think now we need to finish the EuroLeague season well. Try to win all the games, of course, and then prepare ourselves as best as possible for the French championship playoffs,” he explained. “Yes, we always aim for to win everything, but it’s mostly about working every day to try to gain the best out of ourselves.”

The ultimate goal, according to Willis, is clear: “We want to win the French championship and, above all, play very good team basketball. And from a personal point of view, I want to finish the season in good health and in the best possible way.” He’s aiming to contribute not just with his individual performance, but by elevating the collective play of the team.

Willis as well took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the Paris Basketball supporters. “We really appreciate your support at every game. Maintain coming! When all the fans encourage and support us during the games, it really gives us energy,” he said, acknowledging the vital role the fans play in creating a home-court advantage.

Paris Basketball will return to the adidas Arena on Thursday, April 2nd, to face Olimpia Milano in a EuroLeague matchup. Tickets are available for purchase here.

Willis’s journey to Paris Basketball has been a winding one. According to his EuroLeague profile, the Louisville, Kentucky native began his professional career in Italy with Brindisi Basket in 2020, followed by stints in Spain with Joventut Badalona and back to Italy with Reyer Venice. He then spent two seasons with Anadolu Efes Istanbul, winning the Turkish Super Cup in 2024, before arriving in France. He originally played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats from 2013-2017.

The arrival of Willis, a player with a diverse European basketball background, adds another layer of experience to a Paris Basketball roster already brimming with talent. His ability to stretch the floor with his shooting, combined with his rebounding and interior presence, makes him a valuable asset as the team aims for both EuroLeague success and a domestic championship. For fans following the LNB Pro A and EuroLeague, Willis represents a key piece of Paris Basketball’s ambitions.

Paris Basketball’s pursuit of the French championship will undoubtedly be a closely watched affair. With Willis’s commitment to team success and his appreciation for the passionate fanbase, the club appears well-positioned to make a strong push for the title. The next game against Olimpia Milano will be a crucial test as they continue their EuroLeague campaign.
