Mérida is preparing to receive the international elite of archery with the holding of the Mérida 2026 Indoor Archery World Series, which will take place from February 13 to 15 at the Yucatán Siglo XXI Convention Center. The announcement was led by Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena and the General Director of CONADE, Rommel Pacheco, who highlighted the relevance of the contest for the sports positioning of the state.
The event is part of the official circuit of the International Archery Federation (World Archery) and is classified as a category 500 tournament, a level that grants a high number of points for the world ranking and places it among the most important venues in the series. Before arriving in Yucatán, the competition had stops in cities such as Lausanne, Strassen, Taoyuan, Rio de Janeiro and Nimes.
The sports authorities stressed that this achievement is the result of coordination between the State Government and the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE), consolidating Yucatán as a host of international events, as occurred with the Beach Volleyball World Tour held in Progreso last year.
During the presentation, it was also recalled that in 2026 work will begin on the construction of the Center of Excellence of the Americas for Archery in Mérida, a project promoted by CONADE and World Archery México. This space will seek to become a strategic preparation point for national athletes and from other countries on the continent.
The competition comes at a key moment, as it marks the start of the Olympic cycle heading to Los Angeles 2028, where archery is among the priority disciplines for Mexico. At the state level, it is expected that the competition will motivate new generations of archers, taking into account that Yucatán has established itself as a power in the CONADE National Olympiad.
Prominent figures from national archery also participated in the announcement, such as the selected and multi-medallists Ángela Ruiz and Maya Becerra, the latter 2025 National Sports Award winner; in addition to Gabriel Ramos, President of World Archery Mexico; Armin Lizama, Director of the Sports Institute of the State of Yucatán; and Enrique Gamboa, President of the State Archery Association.
