Wednesday’s easy 10-3 victory over South Korea was followed on Thursday morning by an initially somewhat more difficult task when the Czech Republic stood on the other side.
But in the end, the victory numbers were written at a comfortable 7-4.
Above all, the win was arranged via a fourth-round surge when the Czech Republic’s Julie Zelingrova made a remarkable miss and the blue and yellow were able to go away to a 4-1 lead.
The fifth round offered curling drama after the Swedes made it their own and the opponents had a clear opportunity to respond by getting their hands on two points. But the Czechs’ final stone was completely unsuccessful and for a brief moment looked like ending up with two more points for Sweden. But the slide was with the Czech Republic – who managed to grab a point.
– I have never seen anything like it, said SVT’s expert Eva Lund.
The hope for a medal lives on
The end of the match was then controlled by the Wranå siblings, who in the sixth round basically decided the match when three points ended up in Swedish possession.
Although the victory was relatively comfortable, the Swedes are believed to have much more in mind when it really counts.
– The match is not as good in terms of play as yesterday. But it can depend on many things such as the ice or the opponents, said SVT’s Eva Lund.
For Isabella and Rasmus Wranå – who became world champions in 2024 – Estonia awaits tonight in the third round.
And the hope of a Swedish medal in mixed curling lives on to the very highest degree.
