Anyone who wants to watch the World Cup with friends on an Almeloos terrace may be out of luck next summer. The terrace times do not always allow this due to the large time differences. “Therefore, expand them for those few evenings,” is the call from LAS.
The Lokaal Almelo Samen party is thus touching on a sensitive subject. For the sake of peace and quiet in the vicinity of the center, the joint catering entrepreneurs feel that they are already adding a lot of water to the wine with the current terrace hours. There are times when it pinches harder than everyday.
Too late start time
Such as during the upcoming Football World Cup with host cities in America, Canada and Mexico. What if the Netherlands plays against Tunisia on June 26? Starts at 1:00 am. Then you won’t make it to the end of the match on a terrace in Almelo.
Let alone if the Dutch team continues and kicks off at 3 o’clock European time. The question is whether you should stay on a terrace until 5 o’clock, especially if there are penalties after extra time. But LAS is concerned with the matches that you can reasonably watch on a terrace.
“We must make it possible to watch World Cup matches on a terrace in Almelo”
Louis Kampman (LAS faction leader) about temporarily extending terrace hours
If it were up to LAS leader Louis Kampman, the terraces would therefore open longer during important matches. “There are residents who would like to follow these matches on the terrace with friends and family. We must make that possible. It only concerns a few evenings.”
‘Don’t expect any problems’
An entrepreneurial party like LAS says it thinks about both the residents of Almelo and the entrepreneurs, operators of catering establishments in this case. Kampman: “It concerns perhaps one or two evenings. We do not expect this to be a problem.”
‘Favorable evenings catering’
The party hopes to have clarity about this proposal before the World Cup. “These evenings are extra beneficial for the catering industry. Entrepreneurs should not be forgotten either,” says Kampman. “Staying open longer is better for football fans, the catering industry and the city of Almelo.”
