After a blank day on Saturday, this could be the start of a big medal harvest. This Sunday, the biathletes of the French team enter the competition for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games for a first event which could offer a coronation. At 2:05 p.m., the grand start of the mixed relay will be given with two women (Lou Jeanmonnot et Julia Simon) and two men (Eric Perrot and Quentin Fillon Maillet) who will challenge other nations. In the World Cup, the Blues won this event once before being beaten by Italy in the second race.
After the men on Saturday, the women’s downhillers will also compete for victory in alpine skiing. Camille Cerutti, Laura Gauché et Roman Miradoli will represent the Blues. For the latter two, this will be their third participation in the Winter Olympic Games, after Pyeongchang in 2018 and Beijing in 2022.
Two events already started also continue this Sunday. At 4:40 p.m., the French women’s ice hockey team will face Sweden in their third and penultimate match of the group stage. At 7:30 p.m., the free programs of the figure skating team competition will continue with the pairs event, the women’s individual and the men’s individual.
At 4 p.m., all French eyes will be on speed skating and the men’s 5,000 meters where Timothy Loubineaud will aim for the gold medal. While the Arcachonnais improved the world record in Salt Lake City in November, it was already beaten by the Norwegian Sander Eitrem in Inzell in January. Despite everything, Loubineaud was on three of the four podiums in the distance this season. His chances of medals are therefore real.
Finally, after the women yesterday, it’s time for the men’s skiathlon. If the Norwegian ogre Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo is still the favorite, as in each of the events, the young Mathis Desloges had performed well in this event in the World Cup, with an 11th place in Trondheim. Hugo Lapalus, Jules Lapierre and Victor Lovera leave from further away.
