The cross-country skiing competition of the Olympic Games will take place in Predaco, Valdifème, a place known to athletes.

“We know the Predaco valley very well, because there have been competitions there almost every year, including with roller skis. Last year we competed there in the world championship, and last season there was also a stage of the Tour de Ski. We are familiar with the valley, the conditions and the tracks. We will feel at home,” said Wiegants.

“The height above sea level is approximately 1000-1100 meters. It cannot be called a high mountain, therefore we chose to compete in all stages of the World Cup, which took place on the tracks at such a height above sea level,” Viegants continued.

In parallel with competing in cross-country skiing at the highest level, Wiegants is also engaged in business, developing his career outside of sports.

“Salary in sports is what it is. That’s why I already had a paid job during the previous Olympic cycle, and now I’m also doing business in parallel. I’ve been able to fully prepare by spending a high-quality summer and autumn period. It hasn’t hindered me, on the contrary, it’s motivated me to work and train,” Vigant emphasized.

As Vīgants concluded, practicing individual sports in Latvia is hard and harsh, and not everyone is able to work in such conditions.

“Many would say that this will be my last season. Those of us who have won tickets to the Olympic Games have done so with the hardest work. The individual disciplines are not always comparable, and therefore the assessment on the sidelines of sports is not the best. Consequently, the representatives of some individual sports are also grinding in a kind of millstone. But this only sharpens us as people and motivates us to continue working,” said Vigants.

The Milan and Cortina Olympic Games will take place until February 22.
