Tyler Shough: NFL Rookie of the Year

Tyler Shough had an impressive rookie season with the New Orleans Saints. Now the quarterback has been given a special honor.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough has been named Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year. The 26-year-old succeeds Jayden Daniels, who received the award last year.

The award is the result of pure fan voting and should not be confused with the official Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year awards, which are presented together with the MVP award as part of the NFL Honors.

The soft drink manufacturer Pepsi, one of the most important NFL partners, has been holding its own honor since 2002. There is no distinction between offensive and defensive players.

During the regular season, six nominated rookies were proposed after each week, and fans could vote for the respective winner on the NFL homepage. Shough ultimately prevailed in the overall result throughout the season.

New Orleans Saints: Tyler Shough impressed with top values

“I am deeply honored to have been selected for this award,” said Shough. “As a freshman, my goal was to do whatever I could to contribute to our team’s success. Whatever was asked of me, I just wanted to help the team. This wouldn’t have been possible without my teammates and coaches who gave everything they had every week to help us win.”

Shough was selected by the Saints in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. After a total of seven years in college, he initially took on the role of backup to Spencer Rattler in New Orleans and was officially named the starter before week nine.

His completion rate of 67.6 percent was the highest of all rookie quarterbacks, he also had the second-highest passer rating and, despite his less playing time, also the second-most passing yards. He also broke several Saints franchise records for rookies.
