São Paulo plays a tough game and does not want to release Marcos Antônio to Flamengo. Rui Costa, director of the São Paulo club, explained the situation in detail and reduced Rubro-Negro’s chances in looking for the midfielder.

“Marcos Antônio is a São Paulo player. There is no possibility of Flamengo signing Marcos Antônio without talking to São Paulo. This is something we have guaranteed since last year“, decreed the director.
It is important that São Paulo fans know that, at the end of Marcos’ loan, there was already harassment from other clubs towards him”, he revealed, in an interview with UOL.
São Paulo “protected itself” to keep Marcos Antônio
Marcos Antônio was loaned by Lazio to Tricolor Paulista until the middle of this year with “symbolic” goals for mandatory purchase: just five matches played and one victory, which has already been achieved. Therefore, the player is already from SPFC, in negotiations worth 4.2 million euros.

Rui Costa explained: “When we renewed his loan, we added a clause that was merely symbolic,” He started by saying.
“We had already hired Marcos Antônio, which was a clause that if São Paulo played a game in the 2026 season and won a victory, the trigger of the contract was established. From the moment this victory was obtained, Marcos Antônio was considered an athlete for São Paulo”, he assured.
Flamengo is considering offering a high salary
The Gávea club considered involving midfielder Allan, who is now at Corinthians, in the operation for Marcos Antônio. What is more, the value offered in salary to the player would be close to R$2 millionaccording to information from Gabriel Sá, from UOL.
However, SPFC does not wish to negotiate the player, who is a pillar in the midfield of the team led by Hernán Crespo. He is close to renewing his contract with the Morumbis team until December 2030 and, consequently, receiving a salary increase.
