SĀC Floorball: Super League Playoff Hopes Dashed

On Friday evening, floorball club “SĀC” experienced a loss in the penultimate round of the Latvian Superleague tournament away from floorball club “Valmiera”, which makes it difficult for the Đadaži team to enter the elimination tournament. In the championship of the first league, the floorball players of FK “Saulkalne/Salaspils” celebrated their victory, but “Ķekava Bulldogs” suffered a failure.

“SĀC” team in Valmiera was chasing almost the entire game, however, at the end of the second third, the advantage of the home team was only two goals (5:7), ten minutes to the end – three. Then Valmieri scored three goals in a row and won 13:7. Ralfs Celminņš scored three goals for the guests and Dēvids Osītis scored two goals.

In the Premier League table, FBK “SĀC” takes eighth place with 21 points in 26 games, three points more and a game in reserve for the “Lielvārde/Unihoc” team, while the floorball club “Irlava”/”ISAM” has 21 points in 25 matches. The rest of the penultimate rounds of the main tournament will take place on Saturday, but the teams will play the final round on February 14 – after the World Championship qualifying tournament in Liepāja.

On Friday, the floorball club “Saulkalne/Salaspils” won a convincing victory over the students of Bauska BJSS, who were in the West group of the Latvian first league. Similar to the game in Valmiera, the home team was leading only 8:6 after two thirds, but in the last 20 minutes they were much better – 16:7 (Erik Akulov 5+1, Artūrs Bračkas 3+0, Gintas Velmunskis 2+3).

In another game of this group, “Ķekava Bulldogs” floorball players visited the leaders “Kurši” from Liepāja and, although they scored first, in the end they lost 3:6.

When the teams are left to play 2-3 games in the first stage, in the fourth place in Rietumos is “Masters Ulbroka” (32 p. 17 sp.), fifth “Ķekavas Bulldogs” (31 p. 18 sp.), seventh FBK “Baloži” (29 p. 17 sp.) and ninth “Saulkalne/Salaspils” (27 p. 18 sp.). It has a conditional meaning, because in the second stage the teams will be divided into two groups, depending on whether they are independent or belong to one of the Premier League clubs.
