The first youth regional ranking of the year took place in Riedlingen. 14 clubs had registered 65 young people, but 13 players were unavailable at short notice due to illness, which made the tournament management sweat as it threw the tournament planning overboard. Actually, the girls and boys each played in 5 age groups. Due to the manageable number of participants, the girls U15 (1 participant), U17 (3 participants) and U19 (2 participants) had to be combined; the U11 age group was omitted entirely. Three clubs from Bavaria (Munich-Neuaubing, Landsberg and Türkenfeld) also made the long journey. Most young people came from Ehingen (11), followed by the host Riedlingen (10). Ehingen was then also the most successful club with seven podium places.
Of the 10 starters from BV Riedlingen, 8 young people took part in a tournament for the first time, so the excitement was correspondingly great. Thanks to the home advantage, in addition to the coaches, there were many active adult players who took care of them and were available to answer questions. The most successful Riedlingers were Jonas Eberl (U19) and Mattis Haas (U11), who each came fourth in their age groups. Friedrich Ott had to assert himself in a strong field in the U17 and was narrowly defeated in his group games with 18:21 and 20:22 or in three sets. He clearly won the placement games and came seventh. Experience has shown that the performance range in the regional rankings is very large and ranges from beginners to players with several years of playing experience. It was all the more pleasing that our tournament newcomers Karl Baum, Pepe Bieger, Mattis Haas, Julius Kley, Nele Königshoven, Mia Neumann, Selina Ruess and Jonas Weber were mostly able to keep up. There were several 3-set games, some of which were only decided in extra time.
The spectators were able to look forward to exciting rallies, a delicious lunch and an extensive cake buffet.
Anyone who would also like to try out the fastest sport in the world is welcome to come along for a trial training session in the secondary school sports hall. The youth training takes place on Mondays from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the adults then train from 6:30 p.m. and also on Thursdays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Further information can be found on the club’s homepage at www.badminton-riedlingen.de.
