Walid Regragui is stepping down as Morocco’s national coach. At least those are the messages that various media, including RMC Sport in Footmercato, unpack. The selector is also said to have already received various offers from Saudi Arabia.

Regragui was quite successful as national coach of Morocco. He was appointed as the successor to the dismissed Vahid Halilhodzic three months before the start of the 2022 World Cup.

Morocco made a big impression at the global final tournament. The Lions of the Atlas reached the semi-finals, where losing finalist France ultimately proved too strong 2-0.

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations was very disappointing for Regragui. Morocco was then eliminated by South Africa in the first knockout match. The most recent edition of the continental final tournament was a lot more successful.

The Moroccans reached the final, which resulted in a victory for Senegal after a more than chaotic match. Brahim Díaz’s missed panenka cost the country the overall victory.

However, after three and a half years, the cooperation between Regragui and Morocco is reportedly coming to an end. “According to our sources, Regragui has resigned from the Moroccan Football Association,” writes Foot Market.

The role as national coach of Morocco would have been grueling for Regragui. He therefore resigned himself. The Moroccan association must still respect his decision and possibly look for a replacement before the World Cup kicks off in just over four months.

If there is indeed a definitive break, Regragui can get back to work in no time RMC Sport. According to the French magazine, the fifty-year-old coach has already received several offers from Saudi Arabia.
