Historic premiere: This year the Winter Olympics will take place from February 6th to 22nd for the first time in two locations, namely in the northern Italian city of Milan and in the ski resort of Cortina, also in the north of the country. This makes them the first decentralized games in history. They cover a total area of around 22,000 square kilometers.

Olympia 2026: Almost 3,000 athletes will take part

A total of around 2,900 athletes from 90 nations are taking part. Of these, 47 percent are female athletes, which means the rate from the last games in Beijing increases by another two percentage points.
