A cast that clearly enjoys the escalation
A big plus point is the cast. Austin Butler carries the film with an intense performance somewhere between desperation and defiance. After “Elvis” he shows a completely different side here.
Deliver at his side Regina King, Zoe Kravitz, Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber and Vincent D’Onofrio consistently strong performances. You can tell that many of them really enjoy their roles. The supporting characters in particular always provide a mixture of menace and black humor, which gives the film its very own touch.
Brutal, funny, surprising – and better than expected
“Caught Stealing” is one very dark comedya exciting crime thriller and above all one thing: a film that surprises. The action is there: abrupt fights, tough shootouts, brutal moments without warning. There are also cleverly placed twists, a straightforward script and a brilliant soundtrackwhich further increases the tension.
The film isn’t perfect, but that’s exactly what makes it so appealing. He’s wild, sometimes slightly crazy, but always entertaining. The finale is consistent, satisfying and will definitely be remembered!
