La Gantoise formalized this Monday, at the very end of the transfer window, the signing of a new Japanese, Daiki Hashioka. The left-back arrives from Slavia Prague on loan with an option to buy until the end of the season.
Daiki Hashioka knows Belgium well since he has already played for Saint-Trond, first in the form of a loan from the end of January 2021 before signing a definitive contract with the Canaries at the beginning of January 2022.
After this stint in Sint-Truiden, he left for England to join Luton Town (which played in the Premier League) in January 2024, then Slavia Prague in the summer of 2025. In a complicated situation with the Czech club, he was looking for a new challenge.
This season, he took part in a total of 14 games for only 493 minutes played. In particular, he was able to gain experience by playing minutes in the Champions League against Bodø/Glimt, Inter, Arsenal and Pafos.
Rik De Mil spoke out about Daiki Hashioka
Ghent coach Rik De Mil obviously believes in the new Buffalos recruit: “The fact that Daiki knows the Belgian championship and has already played in the Premier League is obviously an advantage, but it is just as important that his mentality fits our group. He has a positive personality and he is a hard worker.”

Kjeld Fort, the general manager, also explained the choice: “Hashioka is a defensive reinforcement. He not only has experience in Belgium, but also at a higher level. Japanese players often have a very good mentality, and this is also the case with Daiki. He is disciplined and brings stability and reliability.”
