Italian Football: Former Star Dies – Obituary & Tributes

Italian football is in mourning. Nicolas Giani died at the age of 39, following a long illness. A central defender who played for several professional clubs, the former Spal captain leaves behind his wife and a daughter.

Born on March 13, 1986, Giani first trained at the Inter training center, where he worked alongside Leonardo Bonucci. An Italian youth international (U18 then U19 between 2004 and 2005), he then pursued a career made up of levels and responsibilities, wearing the colors of Cremonese, Pro Patria, then Vicenza, where he had been an important element in Gregucci’s team.

It was especially at Spal that he left a lasting mark, becoming a leader and a face of the locker room. With the Ferrara club, Giani took part in a remarkable rise, punctuated by two promotions, from Serie C to Serie A, symbol of a journey built on regularity and commitment.

Free since 2022 after a last experience at Desenzano Garda, Nicolas Giani leaves too soon, leaving the memory of a respected defender and an appreciated captain.
