Baas was not yet a central defender at the beginning of last season, and was far from assured of a starting place at Ajax. That paid off completely when Francesco Farioli transformed him into a footballing stopper. “This boy has really developed fantastically,” Kraay continues. “Who would have thought that this 22-year-old Youri Baas would become indispensable for this Ajax?”
