A bottle to the head. If his team, Fenerbahçe, won an important victory this Monday on the pitch of Kocaelispor (0-2), Mattéo Guendouzi’s evening could have gone badly. Established by his coach Domenico Tedesco, the French midfielder was celebrating the opening goal scored by former Parisian Marco Asensio when a bottle of water, coming from the stands, landed directly on the back of his head.
Visibly full, the projectile hit two other players: Anthony Musaba, who fell at the same time as him, as well as Youssef En-Nesyri, hit in the face. After spending a few minutes on the ground, the French international (14 caps) finally got up and played the entire game. The incident is reminiscent of that which occurred in Nice on August 22, 2021, when Guendouzi was still playing at Olympique de Marseille.
Successful debut at Fenerbahçe
That evening, Dimitri Payet also received a plastic bottle of water in the head, thrown from the Nice stands, before the situation degenerated and clashes pitted Riviera supporters against Olympian players. Guendouzi was then slightly injured.
Arriving in Turkey on January 8, the former Marseillais made a convincing debut under his new colors, scoring a goal and winning a trophy in his first match with the Istanbul team during the Turkish Super Cup final against Galatasaray (0-2). The former Marseillais already seems considered an executive of “Fener”, having played all three championship matches.
