Deontay Wilder can’t come to terms with the past and strikes again. The American, who is still reeling from painful defeats by Tyson Fury, has come up with several shocking conspiracy theories. The ‘Bronze Bomber’ has publicly labeled the Briton the ‘biggest cheater in boxing history’, accused the referee of racism and says he has proof.
The former heavyweight champion of the world is convinced that the course of three fights with the British boxer was not the result of a pure sports competition. The American boxer claims that in the first fight his opponent had the wrong gloves on and in retaliation he allegedly removed the padding from them so that he could punch with unnatural force.
The Alabama native goes one step further and openly challenges his rival to a trial. “In the first two fights, Fury clearly cheated. I have proof of that. If I’m lying, let him sue me for defamation so I can produce it. That’s exactly what I want. I can’t wait.” thunders Deontay Wilder in an interview with The Ring magazine.
“He didn’t win anything, they gave it to him. He clearly cheated in the first two fights. This man is the biggest cheater in the history of boxing.” he adds and even suggests that Fury’s ban from entering the US is related to these scams.
But Wilder’s frustration isn’t limited to his opponent’s equipment. The 40-year-old boxer also attacked the well-known referee Jack Reiss, who conducted their first mutual duel, which ended in a draw. According to the American athlete, the referee deliberately extended the count after the knockdown in the last round and acted on the basis of racial prejudice.
“As a dark-skinned black man, I find it harder to believe than a white man. In that first match, the referee was an example of ‘white supremacy’. He gave him an extra count of fifteen.” he declared with the conviction that the referee had deprived him of the victory.
Tyson Fury responded to these accusations with his own distance and did not engage in a direct verbal exchange. The 37-year-old Briton published a video in which he demonstratively praised his last defeater Oleksandr Usyk, calling him a role model of a true athlete – a clear reference to Deontay Wilder.
“You’ll never hear me cry and complain, ‘Oh my God, he cheated,'” the British boxer briefly concluded the topic of Wilder’s conspiracy theories.
