Flamengo Advances: Carioca Quarter-Finals Secured

O Flemish won the Sampaio Corrêa 7-1 this Saturday (7), at Maracanã, for the sixth and final round of the Carioca Championship. With the result, Filipe Luís’ team takes fourth place in Group B, with seven points, and advances to the quarterfinals of the competition.

Rubro-Negro’s goals were scored by Pedro (2), Bruno Henrique (2), Samuel Lino, Everton and Douglas Telles, while Rodrigo Andrade scored for Sampaio Corrêa.

How was the game

The match at Maracanã started with moments of tension. Midfielder Alexandre, from Sampaio Corrêa, collapsed in midfield and suffered a seizure. The game was stopped for a few minutes for medical attention, and the player left the pitch in an ambulance, to applause from both fans.

In the 41st minute, the referee awarded a penalty after Douglas Telles invaded the area and was held by Guilherme. Bruno Henrique converted the charge, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR analysis due to two touches on the ball. The referee ordered the move to be repeated, and the attacker sent it into the corner to close the score at 7-1.
