Enrique on PSG’s Challenge: Beyond Easy Wins | Football News

Spanish coach addresses pressure ahead of Strasbourg match

“Winning 5-0 every week isn’t normal”” Enrique explains PSG’s new challenge

PSG coach Luis Enrique said high expectations making this season harder as his team chase Ligue 1 success & Champions League progress.

Enrique responds to growing expectations

Paris Saint Germain head coach Luis Enrique has defended his team’s current performances despite PSG struggling to match the dominance of last season.

The French champions enter their Ligue 1 match against Strasbourg on Sunday sitting one point behind leaders Lens who maintained top spot with 1-0 victory over Le Havre on Friday.

PSG are also facing tougher European path, having reached Champions League play-off round for place in the last 16 after their historic run to the trophy last season.

“Winning 5-0 Every Week Is Not Normal”

Speaking at press conference on Saturday, Enrique addressed criticism that PSG are no longer as convincing as before.

He said it is unrealistic to expect the team to win every match by four or five goal even if they achieved that for long stretches in the previous campaign.

The Spanish coach explained that higher expectations naturally create frustration but he insisted the squad remains focused on making history again.

Enrique stressed that repeating success is never easy especially after reaching such high level.

Lens rise, not PSG decline

Enrique suggested that PSG’s situation is not due to major drop in level but rather the improvement of their competitors especially Lens.

He described Lens as PSG’s main rival for the title pointing out their excellent form, with ten win in their last eleven match.

Enrique said he welcomes the pressure and believes PSG must prove they can thrive under it.

Update on Dro Fernandez signing

Enrique also spoke about PSG’s recent signing of 18 year old Dro Fernandez from Barcelona earlier this week.

The coach admitted he is unsure when the young talent will make his debut but praised his technical & physical qualities.

Enrique added that the club has strong confidence in the teenager while also urging patience and calm as he develops.
