DFB Cup: Stuttgart Defeats Kiel – Quarter-Finals Result

Holstein Kiel – VfB Stuttgart 0:3 (0:0)

The VfB Stuttgart won the quarter-final game of the DFB Cup against Holstein Kiel 3-0 (0-0). This means that the defending champions have reached the semi-finals of the cup for the third time in four seasons.

The Swabians struggled in the first half of the game and were unable to convince against the second division team. The Kiel team repeatedly countered dangerously and had a few good chances to take the lead.

During the break, an animal visit caused excitement in the sold-out Holstein Stadium: a few minutes after the half-time whistle, a rabbit ran across the grass and then disappeared again. Spectators cheered the animal after the teams went into halftime tied 0-0.

The guests took the lead in the 56th minute. Deniz Undav scored for VfB Stuttgart to make it 1-0. Shortly before the final whistle, the Stuttgart team lived up to their role as favorites: In the 90th minute, Chris Führich made it 2-0 for the guests, and in added time Atakan Karazor made it 3-0.

“The conditions were very difficult. Difficult place, difficult weather, unpleasant opponents. All that counts is getting through one round,” said Führich after the game on ZDF: “In the end we played it down confidently.”

With temperatures well below freezing, the Kiel team missed the chance to defeat the third Bundesliga team this season in the quarter-finals. Kiel won against HSV in the round of 16 and against Wolfsburg in the second main round.
