KV Mechelen has extended the contract of Nacho Miras. This new agreement could well have consequences for Ortwin De Wolf.
Contract extension for Nacho Miras
Goalkeeper Nacho Miras has already proven his value for KV Mechelen more than once. This also resulted in a new contract for the goalkeeper this week. He will now remain with the club until 2029. “That is certainly good news, but especially for him,” says Fred Vanderbiest at his press conference.
Last summer it took some time before a contract was signed for this season. “Because there were some doubts about him. Now he has been proving for months that he is worthy of being number one here. A logical extension.”
Good news for Miras, but what does that all mean for the other goalkeeper Ortwin De Wolf who is currently still recovering from a knee injury. De Wolf is under contract with KV Mechelen until 2027.
Should he leave Behind the Barracks this summer? “Not necessarily,” Vanderbiest responds. “De Wolf works very hard and it is always important for a club like KV to have two good goalkeepers.”

According to the KV Mechelen coach, the choice will lie with the goalkeeper himself. “Does he absolutely want to play or does he want to compete? For me, Ortwin doesn’t have to leave. The more quality, the better. And that competition also makes the two goalkeepers better,” he concludes.
