Daniel Radcliffe: New Career Path Revealed?

There was a time when the whole world feared that Daniel Radcliffe he would be trapped forever behind a pair of round glasses and a lightning bolt scar.

Instead, displaying an unscrupulousness that would be the envy of a Gryffindor on a mission, Radcliffe has spent the last decade dismantling his own iconic image and decided to get into projects so eccentric that they make black magic seem like a hobby for beginners. Today, after the satisfaction of the Tony Award and the Critics Choice nomination, the British actor he seems to be ready for a new leap into the void, namely directing.

Daniel steps behind the camera

While waiting to see him officially behind the lens, Radcliffe gave us a sort of dress rehearsal with The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkinsthe new mockumentary-style sitcom from NBC (and produced by the 30 Rock dream team, led by Tina Fey).

Who Daniel plays Arthur Tobina documentary filmmaker with the ego of a festival auteur and the bank account of an unemployed man, who decides to film the rise (or yet another crash) of a disgraced former NFL player, played by a memorable Tracy Morgan.

Dinkins burned his career betting on his own games and now wants a celebratory film to get him into the Hall of Fame. Tobin, for his part, needs a roof over his head and someone who still believes in his “genius”. “Arthur needs a job!”Radcliffe joked during a recent interview. He also took care to highlight how the forced coexistence between the two is the true backbone of a series that is as caustic as it is irresistible.

Radcliffe seems really intent on moving to the other side of the camera, perhaps permanently. “I would really like to direct”he admitted. “I have spent a considerable amount of hours on sets which has given me a good understanding of how to handle problems”.

Radcliffe also confessed that he had already annoyed some directors by being the unofficial “backup director” during filming. Certain, a five-year horizon was given for the official debut, but the path now seems decided. The only thing it excludes is theatre. And this is because Daniel recognizes his limits: “I don’t have the innate knowledge of the theater space.”

In short, whether he is in front of or behind the camera, the boy who survived Voldemort seems destined to survive Hollywood labels too…
