It seems like a cowboy story, but it’s just reality. Former Italian cycling talent Andrea Piccolo (24) was arrested in Naples with counterfeit money and an electroshock weapon. “A piece of a newspaper aroused the attention of the carabinieri,” Italian media reported.

In 2023, Andrea Piccolo still wore the red leader’s jersey in the Vuelta. A year later, the promising Italian finished 4th in the gravel stage of the Giro.

Italy seemed to have a new cycling star in the making with Piccolo.

But a month and a half after the 2024 Giro, his house of cards collapsed. Piccolo was stopped at the border on suspicion of transporting growth hormone.

His team EF Education-EasyPost immediately terminated the contract of Piccolo, who sought refuge in OnlyFans. Following the example of his then girlfriend Valentina Gomez.

Fake 20 euro notes

There has been radio silence around Piccolo for the past year and a half. But now the former rider is suddenly a main item on the Italian sports pages again.

“As the carabinieri (Italian military police) drove through the center of Naples, a parked luxury car with San Marino license plates aroused their curiosity,” writes the Neapolitan news site Fanpage.it.

“Behind the wheel was Andrea Piccolo. There were 2 more men in the backseat. They did not seem disturbed by the control, until one of the two carabinieri noticed a piece of newspaper sticking out of a small crack under the steering wheel.”

The carabinieri saw a piece of newspaper protruding from under the steering wheel of the Porsche.

The carabinieri were curious and found a box with 100 counterfeit 20 euro notes (worth 2,000 euros). An electroshock weapon was also found in Piccolo’s Porsche.

“After the check, Piccolo was arrested. He and the 2 other occupants are charged with possession of counterfeit banknotes and an object that could cause injury.”

To be continued.

Andrea Piccolo was leader in the Vuelta for 1 day 3 years ago.
