Justin Cobbs arrives at Unicaja, pending his medical examination tomorrow. The 1.91m, 34-year-old point guard with a Montenegrin passport has a long history in European basketball. This season he played for the Turkish Mersin Sports Club, a team with which he faced Unicaja in the first phase of the Basketball Champions League this same year. The arrival of Cobbs comes at an important moment in the season, in which Unicaja has suffered the loss of Alberto Díaz.
Unicaja has reached an agreement in principle with Justin Cobbs (03/16/1991, Los Angeles) for the American point guard with a Montenegrin passport to join the Malaga squad until the end of the season. The player is awaiting a medical examination tomorrow to confirm his arrival at Unicaja.
Justin Cobbs is an experienced 1.91, 34-year-old point guard who played for Mersin Sports Club in Turkey, a team with which he played against Unicaja in the first phase of the Basketball Champions League this season. In the European competition he has averaged 9.9 points, 3.1 assists and 8.9 efficiency, while in the Turkish league his numbers have been 10.6 points, 3.6 assists and 9.1 efficiency.
The signing of Cobbs meets several premises, experience in the European BCL competition and knowledge of Unicaja and its ecosystem. In fact, Cobbs has shared the locker room with 3 players from the Malaga squad in the past, with David Kravsh in his NCAA time in the ranks of the University of California (2011-2014), with Nihad Djedovic (Bayern Munich 2015-16) and Kendrick Perry (Buducnost 2021-22), something that can facilitate his quick adaptation to Unicaja.
Furthermore, Cobbs knows what it’s like to play in the Carpena environment, he did it with Cedevita, Buducnost and this season, as mentioned above, with Mersin Sports Club in Turkey.
As a curiosity, Justin Cobbs is the cousin of NBA star Russell Westbrook, a basketball family based in Los Angeles.
