NFL Network’s draft expert, Daniel Jeremiahdoes not hide his enthusiasm: he is particularly optimistic towards the Canadian defensive lineman Akheem Mesidor.
As the 2026 draft approaches National Football Leaguehis assessment attracts the attention of observers.
In his first list of top 50 prospects, Jeremiah ranks Mesidor 18th. In his two most recent mock drafts, he projects him to be 17th among the Detroit Lions and in 20th place among Dallas Cowboys. Projections which reflect a very high rating for the player from Ottawa.
Versatility that appeals to recruiters
Evolving with the Miami HurricanesMesidor had a remarkable 2025 season: 60 tackles, including 15.5 for losses, 10.5 quarterback sacks and four forced fumbles. Even during the defeat in the national final against Indiana, he managed two sacks, confirming his impact in major events.
At six-foot-three and 280 pounds, he has the ability to play both inside and outside the defensive line. Jeremiah particularly praises his power, his controlled violence in contacts and his incessant motor. In his college career (West Virginia then Miami), Mesidor started 52 games and accumulated 33.5 sacks, numbers that speak for themselves.
The player will participate in the NFL combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, a crucial step in solidifying his position as a first-round pick.
Logan Taylor also under the microscope
The other Canadian being monitored is Logan Taylorimposing offensive lineman Boston College Eagles. Versatile, he played guard and blocker last season, without allowing a sack in 364 passing games in 2024.
Although he is not in Jeremiah’s top 50, a good performance in the combine could improve his value. His size (6’7”, 305 lbs) and his ability to play several positions are sought-after assets.
Interestingly, Mesidor and Taylor also occupy the top two positions in the CFL Scouting Bureau’s winter rankings for the Canadian draft. However, their ambitions seem clearly focused on the NFL.
A few weeks before the draft, the attention paid to Mesidor confirms that Canadian talent continues to carve out an enviable place on the international scene.
