The financial entity continues to consolidate itself as one of the most important strategic partners for the Gran Canaria club.
Club Baloncesto Gran Canaria and CaixaBank continue working hand in hand for another season, as announced last September following an agreement communicated in the new ‘all in one’ Gran Canaria office that the financial institution exhibits on the central Triana street in the capital.
This union, which has now lasted for more than fifteen years, highlights the entity’s commitment to the lower categories of the Claretian club, which it supports for one more year, and highlights CaixaBank’s determined commitment to the development of educational programs for training in values and the promotion of basketball among the young athletes who make up the club’s youth team.
The more than a thousand young athletes from the great family of the Gran Canaria club were the protagonists this Thursday in the traditional photo with which the club wants to thank CaixaBank for its support. The players from the different teams in the training categories formed a mosaic on the parquet of the main court of the Gran Canaria Arena in which you could read ‘CaixaBank’, which has already become one of the traditional events of the course.
Manuel Afonso, territorial director of CaixaBank in the Canary Islands, represented the financial entity on this occasion that helps strengthen and make visible the union between the entity and the Gran Canaria Basketball Club. Sitapha Savané, president of the club, accompanied Afonso. Both were delighted by the opportunity to be present, one more year, at an event that brings together one of the driving forces of the club. Players, coaches, and family members were able to share this relaxed time at the Siete Palmas venue.
The financial institution continues this year to support the ‘Solidarity Triple’, an initiative through which CaixaBank donates 50 euros for every triple that the first team scores during official Liga Endesa and Basketball Champions League matches. All the amount raised is allocated, at the end of each season, to training projects of the quarry.
Thanks to this agreement, in addition, the lower categories of the Gran Canaria Basketball Club will also benefit from the CBGC Summer Academy and the CaixaBank Summer Campus. The commitment between the financial institution and the club also includes the participation of players, coaching staff and staff of ‘Granca’ in social projects that the bank promotes in the Canary Islands such as ‘The Tree of Dreams’, through which more than 3,000 boys and girls from the Islands can have their gift every Christmas. It is, therefore, a strategic and productive link that simultaneously promotes young Canarian talent on the island and the values of a sport like basketball in boys and girls.
CaixaBank, reference sponsor of Spanish basketball
CaixaBank is a sponsoring partner of the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) and official sponsor of the Spanish national team, both women’s and men’s, in all its categories, ranging from senior to under-16, and main sponsor of the Spanish Sports Federation for People with Physical Disabilities, with the aim of promoting wheelchair basketball.
At the same time, the financial entity is a sponsor of multiple basketball academies in Spain, both professional and amateur. Through links with the teams, CaixaBank promotes the practice and promotion of basketball for training teams and basketball schools throughout the territory of influence. Through these agreements, CaixaBank encourages participation in official competitions for these teams, as well as the organization of campuses, granting scholarships to young athletes and training coaches.
The financial entity has been involved with national basketball since 2013 and its involvement and activation of multiple initiatives around this sport have helped to make visible and expand the impact of the greatest successes achieved internationally.
In its implementation of the local sponsorship strategy, CaixaBank has collaborated with the main basketball events that have been held in the last decade in Spain, both professional and amateur, transferring the values of the sport to all corners of the country. Proof of this is the commitment as official sponsor of the 2014 World Cup held in Spain, the collaboration with the Women’s Basketball World Cup held in Tenerife in 2018, the women’s Eurobasket that was played in Valencia in 2021 or the historic commitment with the Plaza 3×3 CaixaBank circuit.
On the occasion of the Men’s World Cup held in Spain 2014, the FEB and CaixaBank joined forces in order to promote a sports volunteering program that transcended the competition itself: the FEB CaixaBank volunteer program. Eleven years later, the program has managed to build a solid community of nearly 25,000 volunteers, who support all official basketball events organized by the FEB.
