The charged Allsvenskan summit between Malmö FF and Mjällby at the beginning of August had lasted for just over 20 minutes. Down on the field it was hot and dense in the summer heat and referee Kristoffer Karlsson had a lot to deal with.
Even up in the stands, emotions surged.
For a 54-year-old man, it spilled over after Karlsson on two occasions refused to blow free kicks for the home team.
The man took one Pet bottle and hauled it down onto the plane from its position up on Bob’s corner, located on the second floor next to the standing room.
The measure was noticed by staff working with camera surveillance at Eleda Stadium and the 54-year-old could be located by the security guards.
These in turn handed the man over to the police, who judged him to be too drunk to be questioned directly on the spot.
In a later interrogation let the 54-year-old greet via his lawyer that it was frustration over a “horribly mediocre football season” that was behind him throwing the bottle.
He is remorseful and ashamed and says that he does not like people who do such things.
The man admits to breaking the public order law.
He is sentenced to daily fines totaling SEK 10,000. He has also been awarded an entry ban, which means that he is removed from Swedish elite football arenas for a period of time.
