In the past few days, it has become clear that Malmö FF is sending its 22-year-old midfielder to Borussia Mönchengladbach on loan until June 30, with a mandatory purchase option.
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the transfer fee is around 2 million euros, which corresponds to just over 20 million kroner.
On Saturday it was time for the debut.
Borussia Mönchengladbach was pitted against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, and the Swede had to start the match on the bench.
In the 79th minute, however, it was time for playing time. Out went Kevin Stöger and in came Hugo Bolin. BILD describes how, shortly after the jump-in, Bolin showed class with a nice dribble on the left wing and a “sharp cross” that just went past a teammate.
Coach Eugen Polanski is lyrical about his new acquisition.
– After the first half of training on Tuesday, I said: “He’s good.” On Wednesday, after his first real session, I said, “He’s very good.” And after the match I say that he is “top class – I really liked what I saw”, says the coach according to BILD.
Sports manager Rouven Schröder also pays tribute to the Swede.
– Everyone who entered did very well. Hugo immediately showed that he is calm with the ball. He is experienced, he knows the surfaces, he is downright fun to watch. And Hugo is also a good guy who has integrated lightning fast, says Schröder, and continues:
– Hugo really celebrates the place, you can clearly see that. He is so happy to be here in Gladbach. It is a very good sign for many. What for some is everyday life is something completely special for him. He enjoys how fantastic the atmosphere is in the arena. It will be even better, of course, if he also scores a goal or plays until one.
The match ended 1–1, after a goal by teammate Yannik Engelhardt and an own goal by another teammate, Philipp Sander.
Borussia Mönchengladbach is in 12th place with 22 recorded points.
