Steven Bergwijn will soon receive an offer for a new contract. This is what transfer journalist Santi Aouna from France writes FootMercato. His current employer Al-Ittihad wants to take a new path after the turbulent transfer window.
“After the departure of Karim Benzema and a turbulent transfer period, especially the move of N’Golo Kanté to Fenerbahçe, Al-Ittihad now wants to stabilize the selection by focusing on contract extensions,” writes the French football medium. The current selection is therefore being examined and Bergwijn and former Roda JC player Danilo Pereira, among others, should receive contract extensions.
The Dutch attacker’s current deal runs until mid-2027, but Al-Ittihad hopes for a longer stay for the 28-year-old. However, Danilo’s contract expires next summer. Both players are a priority for the club, Aouna writes on X. The interest in staying would be mutual. Both players would like to stay, it sounds like FootMercato.
Bergwijn left just before the transfer deadline in the summer of 2024. Ajax earned 21 million euros from the transfer, while two years earlier it paid just over 31 million euros. The Dutchman has made 49 appearances for the club so far, scoring 21 goals. He was also involved in ten assists.
