BC Adliswil: Medals Without a Championship | [Year] Update

BC Adliswil won four medals at the Elite Swiss Championships in Winterthur. However, none of the people from Adliswil have enough to pull off a really big coup.

As BC Adliswil reports, the Adliswil badminton players were able to win four medals at the Elite Swiss Championships which took place last weekend in the AXA Arena in Winterthur.

It was a successful weekend for the Adliswil team, even if some players actually wanted the title.

Semi-final exit for Master Scheiwiller and Patrick Zbinden

Julien Scheiwiller entered as champion for the last two years and wanted to defend his title again. Everything went according to plan until the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals on Sunday morning, an exhausted Scheiwiller faced an outstanding and almost flawless Nicolas A. Müller.

At the beginning, the Adliswil player was able to dictate the game and take a lead, but then Müller took the reins and won his second title after 2022.

Decision only in the third sentence

Much more controversial was the semi-final game of Patrick Zbinden, who eliminated title contender Künzi on Saturday. The start to his semi-final did not go as planned.

After a medical timeout, he never found his way back into the first set. It was completely different in the second round, where Zbinden dominated his opponent and forced him into a deciding set.

This passage was very even and could have tipped either way. But in the end, Maxime Pierrhumbert from Lausanne was happy about making it to the final.

Nevertheless, Zbinden showed his class in this tournament and was able to win his first medal in the men’s singles.

Bronze and silver by Sharma and Schnider

Very few experts would have guessed that Nishka Sharma, who was only 18 years old, would win a medal. But the young athlete impressed with her fast game and fresh appearance and was able to eliminate both Cloé Brand and Adina Panza.

Only the later champion Pelupessy was able to stop her. Here, too, Sharma was able to show flashes of her talent at times, but the Lausanne woman didn’t let anything go wrong.

Milena Schnider had a similar experience. Schnider impressed three games including the semi-final against last year’s champions Franconville and won in impressive fashion.

In the final game, however, the Sihltal native never found her game and had to hand over the championship title to the convincing French-speaking Swiss. The Adliswil team remained without championship honors, but were happy about the four medals.

Cunningham/Zbinden were also convincing

With a convincing win against Berra/Joliat, Ezra Cunningham and Andreas Zbinden reached the quarter-finals. There they were able to win the first set against veteran Dumartheray and Robin Gerber.

But after that, the strength and power of the Adliswil duo was gone and the path towards a medal was over. Nevertheless, the newly formed doubles were able to show their class.

The Adliswil women’s doubles Schmid/Hofstetter had no chance against the eventual finalists Müller/Stern.
